Stephens and Son Solicitors, Chatham, Kent Stephens & Son LLP can trace its history back to 1793 when John Stephens first began to practice as a solicitor in New Road, Chatham. Later on, in about 1880, Rome House, 41 Railway Street, Chatham was purpose built for the firm and it originally provided a solicitor's office on the ground floor with a family home upstairs.

During the war Rome House became Chatham Police Station (the concrete foundations of the old police dog kennels are still evident at the far end of the car park) and the firm moved next door to 39 Railway Street.
