Mediation is an effective and powerful yet somewhat underused tool that can be a successful alternative to court proceedings when it comes to family issues. Often the services of an independent third party can enhance the ability of all involved to see a clearer picture of the options available, and navigate a way forward without incurring both the stress and cost implications of court proceedings.
Although not compulsory, in most cases you will be expected to have at least explored the option of mediation before proceeding to having your case heard in court. However, in cases involving domestic violence or abuse mediation will not be considered appropriate.
Stephens & Son solicitors in Chatham have trained mediation professionals with the team. Carole Webb has many years experience of dealing with a huge range of unique family dynamics within which mediation has proved to be invaluable in the resolution of an array of issues. Carole can also carry out Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs). These are where all parties involved in a family dispute are required to come together and discuss the possibility of mediation and decide if it can be of help.
